How to replace the wax filter on your hearing aids
Most hearing aids have a filter to stop earwax getting into the hearing aid body, speaker, or earpiece. Learn how to change your wax filter here.
Before you start
It is important to change your wax filter regularly because earwax can clog up the ventilation openings and sound outlets in your hearing aids, resulting in weak or distorted sound. Wax build-up is one of the main causes of hearing aid repair.
Always use the same type of wax filter as the one originally supplied with your hearing aids. If you are in any doubt about the use or replacement of wax filters, contact your hearing care professional.
Replacing the wax filter
For behind-the-ear hearing aid styles, the wax filter is located either in the speaker or in the mould.
For in-the-ear hearing aid styles, the wax filter is located in the hearing aid body.
Take a wax filter removal tool out of the plastic shell.
Each wax filter removal tool has two pins. One pin is empty, for removing the old wax filter, and one has a new wax filter attached.
